2000s Singer Amy Winehouse, whose talent, musical phrasing and performance has been compared favourably to Ella Fitzgerald, lived in the upper floors of number 28 when the album ‘Frank’ came out (2003) and in the early days of her career. The apartment is accessed and addressed through the back door from Jeffrey’s Place. As her fame grew she moved to the end of Prowse Place, where Jeffreys Street residents had to squeeze past the constant paparazzi but were sometimes treated to the amplified sound of her singing. She is fondly remembered by neighbours.
